I received my Master’s in Acupuncture and East Asian Medicine from the Seattle Institute of East Asian Medicine. My research capstones focused on Chinese medicine frameworks for understanding psychoemotional health concerns (specifically obsessive-compulsive disorder), and on approaches to treating side effects of endocrine therapy.

In the clinic, I provide a gentle treatment style, drawing from Japanese acupuncture and classical Chinese medicine lineages. I work with patients on a broad range of concerns, including emotional well-being, chronic pain and illness, and gastrointestinal health. I’ve received training in trauma-informed care from The Breathe Network and by studying trauma-informed acupuncture with Kate Busby, LAc.

In addition, I love working with women and people of all gender identities who are navigating hormonal and menstrual health concerns. Providing inclusive, knowledgeable care to the LGBTQIA+ community is also incredibly important to my work. I believe in collaborative healthcare, where each patient’s values, backgrounds, and needs are always centered.

In my daily life, I love tending my garden, going for long rambling walks, and getting into a creative writing or art-making project.

Emma received her degree from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM) in San Francisco and is Board Certified in Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine by the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncturists and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).

Her gentle treatment style is influenced by Japanese acupuncture and moxibustion. Sessions often include manual therapies such as shiatsu, caniosacral or visceral manipulation drawn from her massage therapy background.

She has experience addressing conditions of acute and chronic pain, women’s health, fertility, digestive concerns, migraines, sleep issues and the constellation of symptoms that affect our mental health. She enjoys sharing the unique perspective East Asian Medicine has to offer about health, vitality, coming home to ourselves and finding ways to navigate in a complex world. When not in the clinic, or being a nerdy student, you can find her reading recipe books & poetry, knitting and spending time in nature.

Kayla has had a lifelong fascination with acupuncture and East Asian Medicine, having first begun receiving treatments as a teenager in Maine. She studied Biology and Holistic Health in college and completed her masters in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs at the Seattle Institute of East Asian Medicine. Kayla is also currently pursuing her doctorate and is studying the use of psilocybin for psychiatric disorders through the lens of Chinese Medicine.

The acupuncture style she mainly used is a palpation based technique called Engaging Vitality while supplementing with many other styles/techniques and is often accompanied by Chinese herbal formulas, body work techniques like tuina and shiatsu, moxibustion, cupping, guasha, and qi gong instructions. She strongly believes that every body has the ability to heal itself and our job as practitioners is to offer guidance to reinforce this natural process.

I provide an all-inclusive, accessible, body-positive environment. It is my goal to include, listen, and educate the patient on their healthcare journey. I provide highly-customized, clear, compassionate, gentle and effective, patient-led care. I seek to serve stressed-out humans in pain and transition, wishing to participate in their wellness goals. I look forward to meeting you and serving our community.

While there are many schools of acupuncture, my technique consists of a combination of Traditional Chinese, gentle Japanese, and the more modern school of Engaging Vitality taught by Dan Bensky, Marguerite Dinkins, Rayén Antón and the late Chip Chase. EV is a palpation-based method of practicing acupuncture that uses osteopathic diagnostic principles of examination.

Having a full tool kit of techniques gives me the flexibility to determine the method that will be most effective for treating your specific condition. We all have different bodies, and I believe that on different days, our bodies might need different care. Let’s talk about how East Asian Medicine can help you and your loved ones!
